I'm very excited to now add akuamma seed powder and extract to our collection of premium ethnobotanicals for sale!

Akuamma, or Picralima nitida, is native to Western Africa, and has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous cultures of that region.

Containing a host of alkaloids, with the primary alkaloid being akuammine, akuamma affects the endogenous opioid system, hitting the delta and kappa opioid receptors. Users of akuamma have described physical relaxation, analgesia, and slight euphoria associated with its use, similar to that of kratom.

One of the very unique things about akuamma is that users claim there is no physical dependence or withdrawal associated with its use, which makes it a wonderful candidate for getting off of opiates.

Traditionally, indigenous people would chew and swallow anywhere from one seed to a handful of seeds. One seed weighs roughly 250-500mg.

I've wanted to carry this for a while, but, as with any product I offer, I wanted to purchase it directly from the source. You can be pleased to know that you're supporting a family in Ghana by purchasing this akuamma product, and helping them live a life that would be extraordinarily difficult for them otherwise.

I've really enjoyed akuamma, and I'm really excited to offer akuamma seed powders and extracts to everyone in the MN Nice family! If you have any questions about how to integrate this incredible seed into your wellness routine, never hesitate to contact us!

For thousands of years, akuamma was a traditional medicine used by communities in West Africa for managing pain and reducing fevers. They would chew and swallow either individual or handfuls of seeds. In the modern era, akuamma seed powder is still used by these same communities for not only pain management, but also for supporting opioid addiction recovery.

Outside of West Africa, however, finding high-quality akuamma seed straight from the source can be challenging. That’s why we’re proud to work directly with a family in Ghana to source our akuamma products. Because of these farmers, you’re able to experience one of West Africa’s most well-known natural remedies for yourself.

What is akuamma seed extract?

Akuamma extract is the result of a careful extraction method that removes the active alkaloids from the seed. Those isolated compounds are extracts. Akuamma extract is enjoyed in either a tincture or infused powders. Due to how concentrated the alkaloids are, extracts are significantly more potent than standard akuamma seed powders, which are just pulverized seeds.

Is akuamma seed legal in the USA?

Yes, akuamma seed is legal in the United States. Due to its status as a niche natural remedy with no serious adverse side effects, no government entity has considered regulating it yet. However, like with any botanical remedy, always check your local city, county, and state laws before ordering our akuamma seed powder.

Does akuamma have opioids?

Yes, akuammine, the active alkaloid in akuamma, is considered a weak opioid. Although the effect is weak compared to pharmaceutical opioids, it does still interact with your body’s opioid receptors.

However, there is no evidence that even highly concentrated akuamma seed extracts produce the intense euphoria associated with traditional opioids or lead to tolerance or dependence.

Is akuamma addictive?

No, akuamma is not addictive. Akuammine does interact with opioid receptors and may provide opioid-like effects, but there are a few reasons it’s not addictive.

First, there is no evidence that you will build a tolerance to it, which is what typically leads to users taking higher doses of opioids to get the same effects. Second, users have never experienced any signs of physical dependence. And finally, akuamma doesn’t produce the same level of euphoria as pharmaceutical opioids, so there is no risk of psychological addiction.

How should I take akuamma seeds?

The easiest way to take akuamma seeds is in powder form, including extract-infused options like our 3:1 extract. Powder allows you to take akuamma in any way you prefer, whether it’s adding it to drinks, mixing it into meals, or encapsulating it for simple, easy dosing.
