Renee says it's her favorite new product amongst our ethnobotanicals for sale. She mixes it into water and drinks. Jen absolutely loves it in conjunction with the full decarb extract.

Wild dagga, also known as Leonotus leonurus or “African Cannabis,” is a plant native to South Africa. It’s a beautiful blooming flower that contains Leonurine as well as a host of other compounds.

Leonurine interacts with GABA and 5-HT3A serotonin receptors, with other compounds in wild dagga affecting the endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS). Users describe the experience as similar to cannabis but with a bit of a different, “brighter” feel to it.

Leonurine has been shown to increase levels of serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine. People also report wild dagga helping them manage inflammation and oxidative stress.

It took a while to find a good source for wild dagga, but I finally locked it in and am extremely pleased with it!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

For millennia, the indigenous tribes of South Africa relied on wild dagga as a form of traditional medicine and ritual implement. The Hottentot tribe specifically is well-known for their use of the plant, but it was also used regularly by the Zulu and Xhosa tribes.

Wild dagga was used to treat a wide range of health problems all over the body. For example, wild dagga was topically applied to skin conditions like rashes, boils, and eczema to help with recovery.

Dried wild dagga extract powder could be eaten or brewed into tea to assist with stomach problems or reduce headache pain. The leaves, roots, and bark were used to treat insect and snake bites and stings. Dried wild dagga flower petals and leaves have also been smoked for their mild psychoactive effects, especially during spiritual rituals.

This plant’s legacy of providing all-natural wellness continues to this day. It remains an all-natural alternative for managing inflammation, digestive issues, and mood. You can learn more about traditional ethnobotanicals like wild dagga on our blog.

Serving Size: A common starting dose is 250–500 mg per serving (around 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon). The effects of wild dagga are dose-dependent. We recommend beginners start with low doses and increase gradually.

Preparation: Brew this extract in tea or mix it into a drink. To prepare tea, place the standard dose into a tea bag and steep it in boiling water for about 20 minutes. If you prefer to mix it into a drink or water, simply scoop the dose directly into your beverage.

Is wild dagga powder psychoactive?

Yes, wild dagga is psychoactive. In its default leaf form, it produces very mild euphoric and relaxing effects similar to those of cannabis. Our 10:1 extract intensifies those effects without making the experience overwhelming.

Is wild dagga extract safe for daily use?

Yes, wild dagga is safe for daily use, as its mild psychoactive effects do not significantly impair daily responsibilities, and side effects are minimal. It can be used occasionally or as part of a wellness routine, though taking breaks may help prevent tolerance buildup and maintain its effectiveness over time.

How long does a wild dagga “high” last?

A wild dagga “high” lasts differently depending on how you consume the wild dagga. The effects from a tea infused with wild dagga extract powder last 4-6 hours. If smoked, the effects can last around 30 minutes.

Does wild dagga powder make you sleepy?

Wild dagga doesn’t make users sleepy, but many people report it helps them relax both body and mind. Being relaxed leads to getting better sleep. We would recommend wild dagga extract powder as a pre-bedtime treat.

Does wild dagga have any side effects?

Wild dagga is generally safe when consumed responsibly. However, if taken in higher doses, it may cause mild drowsiness, dry mouth, or lightheadedness. Just like taking any other herbal supplement, start with a low dose and see how your body responds. You can always take more if you want stronger effects.
