Leonotis leonurus, or Klip Dagga, is flowering plant native to tropical Africa and southern India. It has been used for thousands of years by indigenous populations as a malady for a variety of ailments including fever, coughs, and bacterial or viral infections. It has also been brewed into a tea or smoked as a mild euphoriant and sedative.
Klip Dagga contains a number of alkaloids, amongst which are Nepetaefolin, Nepetaefuran, Nepetaefolin, Nepetaefolin, Leonotinin, Leonotin and Dubiin. It has been found to show anti-deppressive effects in mice and has been used for years around the world as a substitute for marijuana. Wild Dagga has also been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory effects.
